The following books and videos provide a good range of background
material in English (or with English sub-titles) from various points of view and are either specifically about Oradour, or contain
material which is relevant in the context of understanding the events that led up to 10
June 1944.
- Oradour, un film de Michel Follin et Marc Wilmart.
(VHS video and now from 2010 on DVD also) This is a
film made by Follin and Wilmart in 1988 and is in
two one-hour parts, neither of which offers any real explanation or gives much by way of
background as to why the event occurred. For most of the two parts, the video consists of
interviews with survivors and their relatives. It gives a valuable oral history of the
massacre and how it has affected the living. Part 1 is called, Les voix de la douleur (The
voices of grief) and Part 2 is, Aujourd'hui la mémoire (The memory today). Both parts are
on the same video-cassette and are available from the Centre de la Mémoire in
Oradour-sur-Glane. The cassette is produced in VHS format to the following standards:
NTSC, PAL and SECAM, it is in French with English sub-titles. The cost in 2002 was about €20.
It is now (from 2010) available as a DVD for the same price.
- Oradour, retour sur un massacre. (DVD) Directed by: Christophe Weber. DVD
(Region2) copies can be purchased from the Centre de la Mémoire in Oradour
for €20. The program is in
French, lasts for 52 minutes and since 2006 has both French and
English sub-titles (see English
transcript). It can also be purchased directly from
Sunset Presse at: 98 route de la Reine, 92100 Boulogne-Billancourt, France.

(I believe that they can also supply the
programme on VHS tape).
- Une vie avec Oradour. (DVD)
Directed by Patrick Séraudie. DVD (Region 2) copies can be purchased from the
Centre de la Mémoire in Oradour-sur-Glane for €20. The program is in French,
but has sub-titles in both English and German for the main part of 84
minutes length, but not for the 35 minute supplemental testimony of
Jacqueline Pinède and Martial Brissaud. The main part of the film is
concerning the testimony of Robert Hébras and (to a lesser extent)
Jean-Marcel Darthout. First produced in 2012.
