View of La Plaine hamlet
This is part of the hamlet of La Plaine on the D9, about 1½ miles east of Oradour-sur-Glane on the road to Limoges. The view is taken looking at the likely place where the tow-rope broke on the looted car that was being steered by one of the SS troopers (see Chapter 2 of In a Ruined State). It was described by Hubert Desourteaux as crashing into a telegraph pole, seriously injuring the driver. It seems probable that this bend in the road was the place where the incident occurred. Oradour is along the road to the right of view.
