Window through which Madame Rouffanche jumped
It is the lower middle window from which Madame Rouffanche jumped when she escaped from the church. The distance from the bottom of the window to the top of the steeply rising ground is about 10 feet and the same again to the top of the wall. The total drop was therefore in the order of some 20 feet and was not something to attempt unless the circumstances were desperate. After she jumped Mme Rouffanche ran along the grassed area to the left of the view and round to the Presbytery garden, where she hid amongst rows of peas until the next day. The lady standing in the foreground is 5 feet 4 inches (162cm) tall and is there to give a better idea of scale. © Michael Williams: revised February 2022 |
