Panorama of the cemetery at Oradour-sur-Glane (360 degree view)
This 360 degree panorama of the cemetery of Oradour-sur-Glane was taken from in front of the main stele. Some of the tombs shown are not directly related to the massacre of 10 June 1944, but in fact pre-date (and in some cases post date) the event. For close up views of the various memorials behind the main stele take this link. For a higher definition image of the same view take this link. An odd aspect of French cemeteries is that grave space is normally leased for a specified time and if the payments are not kept up, or the term of the lease expires, the plot can be (and often is) reused by another family. It is quite sad, walking round a French cemetery, to see the number of decaying graves, falling apart and covered in weeds. This is a sign that the family have died-out, moved away, or cant be bothered anymore: a pity. © Michael Williams: July 2012
