Memorial to the Roumy family and Albert's fiancé

Memorial to the Roumy family in Oradour cemetery

This memorial to the Roumy family and Albert's fiancé Ginette Couturier, stands in the main cemetery of Oradour-sur-Glane, to the left and just in front of the memorial tablets which list the names of the victims of 10th June 1944. Speaking in 1988 Paul Doire said that it was just as well that Albert had died on the 10th as he would never have been forgiven for being a member of the Milice (see notes). The legend at the foot of the memorial reads, "Burned by the Germans on the 10th June 1944" and afterwards, only the body of Jean Roumy could be formally identified.
