Otto Weidinger as an Obersturmbannführer
I do not know the exact date of this picture except that it must be on or after 6th May 1945, as that was the date of the award of the Swords to the Knight's Cross. The Swords was the second endorsement to the Knight's Cross after the Oak Leaves, both of which are visible here. It is obviously a posed photograph, not one snatched hurriedly in the field, yet it was presumably taken within 2 days of the German surrender and whilst Weidinger was the commander of the Der Führer regiment located in or near Prague. © Michael Williams: revised February 2004
