Robert Hébras, one of the survivors of the massacre at Oradour
Robert Hébras

Robert Hébras, in a good humour; taken outside the Town Hall in Oradour-sur-Glane new town at about 13:30 on the 70th Anniversary of the massacre in 2014. He was one of only six men to escape from the Laudy barn (five survived) on the 10th June 1944 and one of only two left alive on 10th June 2014 (the other was Jean-Marcel Darthout, who did not attend the ceremony due to ill health). Hébras was born in Oradour-sur-Glane on 29th June 1925 and thus was 87 years old at the time of this photograph. It is only a coincidence, but the man who led the attack on Oradour, Adolf Diekmann, was killed in action on 29th June 1944, Hébras's 18th birthday. Hébras died on 11th February 2023 in nearby St Junien, he was 97 years old.
