The remains of the day

The remains of the day, when the presidents had gone

This view shows the area in front of the crypt after the events of the day were over, the clear-up begun and the general public allowed access once again. Compared to the cemetery and the arrangements made for the 70th anniversary, the total area available for people to watch what was going on was reduced considerably. This seemingly was part of the security clamp-down; less people = greater security and better crowd control. Nothing was being left in situ, all the seating and public address system was removed before nightfall. Quite a lot of effort and cost for a short lived event. It was good to see that an effort was being made to remember the 10th June 1944 at Oradour-sur-Glane, it was just a pity that so few people were allowed free access to watch it.
